Early Life

Chamisa was born in the small town of Masvingo in 19781. He spent his early years in Gutu, Masvingo, where he completed his secondary education at Alheit High School2. During his school years, he earned the nickname “Mhepo,” meaning “Wind,” due to his athletic abilities2.


Chamisa is a well-educated individual. He studied Political Science and Public Administration at the University of Zimbabwe2. He also holds an LLB (Honours) from the same university up”>2. In addition to his law degree, Chamisa has a degree in Pentecostal Theology from Living Waters Theological Seminary of Harare2.

Political Career

Chamisa’s political career began when he was elected as the secretary-general of the Zimbabwe National Students Union2. He later joined the Movement for Democratic Change, Zimbabwe’s main opposition party, upon its formation2.

In 2003, at the age of 25, Chamisa became the youngest Member of Parliament1. He has held various positions within the party, including chairperson of the MDC Youth Assembly and spokesperson for the MDC Alliance2.

Chamisa also served as the Minister of Information, Communication, and Technology in the Government of National Unity of Zimbabwe from 2009 to 20132.

Recent Years

In recent years, Chamisa has continued to be a significant figure in Zimbabwean politics. He served as the President of the Movement for Democratic Change Alliance from May 2019 to September 20211. Currently, he is the President of the Citizens Coalition For Change1.
