Eden Michael Hazard (born 7 January 1991) is a Belgian professional footballer who is known as one of the best wingers and attacking midfielders of his generation. Hazard, who most recently played for Real Madrid, is currently a free agent.

Early Life

  • Born in La Lo uvière, Belgium to Carine and Thierry Hazard.
  • Grew up in Braine-le-Comte. Has three younger brothers, Thorgan, Kylian and Ethan, who all became professional footballers.
  • Began playing football at age 4 for his local club Royal Stade Brainois. Joined Tubize academy at age 14.


  • Attended secondary school in Braine-le-Comte.
  • Focused mostly on football training rather than academics from a young age.


  • Made professional debut for Lille in 2007 at age 16 after rising through their youth academy.
  • Quickly became a star player at Lille, winning Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year in 2009 and 2010.
  • Won Ligue 1 title and Coupe de France with Lille in 2011 and was named Ligue 1 Player of the Year.
  • Transferred to Chelsea in 2012 for £32 million. Helped Chelsea win Europa League in 2013 and Premier League in 2015.
  • Named PFA Young Player of the Year in 2014 and won PFA Players’ Player of the Year in 2015 during his time at Chelsea.
  • Won 2 more Premier League titles with Chelsea in 2017 and 2018, as well as FA Cup and Europa League in 2018.
  • Joined Real Madrid in 2019 for club record €100 million transfer fee. Struggled with injuries during 4 seasons at Madrid.
  • Left Madrid in 2023 as a free agent after mutually terminating his contract.
  • Played over 100 matches for the Belgium national team from 2008-2022. Captained Belgium to 3rd place at 2018 World Cup.
