Lauren Keyana Palmer (born August 26, 1993), known popularly as Keke Palmer, is an American actress, singer, and television personality hailing from Harvey, Illinois, U.S. She has made significant contributions to both comedy and drama productions, earning several accolades, including a Primetime Emmy Award, five NAACP Image Awards, and nominations for a Daytime Emmy Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award. - Keke Palmer was born in Harvey, Illinois, to Sharon and Lawrence “Larry” Palmer, both of whom had professional acting careers before settling into full-time jobs.
- She was raised in a Catholic household in nearby Robbins, Illinois. Her nickname “Keke” was inspired by her older sister’s imaginary friend.
- Palmer first showcased her singing talent in a church and performed at a stage show at a Chicago tourist destination. At age nine, she auditioned for a stage production of The Lion King.
Career
- Palmer made her acting debut in 2004 with her first film role in Barbershop 2: Back in Business. In 2005, she signed a record deal with Atlantic Records.
- Her breakthrough came in 2006 when she starred in the drama film Akeelah and the Bee. Her debut studio album, So Uncool, was released in 2007.
- She played a number of roles on Nickelodeon, such as the title character in the sitcom True Jackson, VP, and provided the voice of Aisha in the Nickelodeon revival of Winx Club.
- Palmer transitioned to mature roles with the VH1 biographical film CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story in 2013. From 2014 to 2015, she starred as Ella in Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderell a on Broadway.
- She has since starred in television series such as the Fox satirical horror series Scream Queens, the Epix drama series Berlin Station, the slasher series Scream, and the Facebook Watch series Turnt Up with the Taylors.
