Hon. Samuel Nartey George(born January 22, 1985), known popularly as Sam George is a Ghanaian politician who hails from Ahwiam, Old Ningo, and is an active member of the National Democratic Congress. Early Life

Hon. Samuel Nartey George was born on January 22, 1985, in Somanya, located in the Eastern Region of Ghana. He grew up in Ahwiam, Old Ningo.

Education

  • George earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Engineeri ng, specializing in Soil and Water Engineering from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
  • He also holds a law degree from the University of London and completed an Executive Masters in Conflict, Peace, and Security from the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping and Training Center.
  • In 2022, George graduated from the London School of Economics and Political Science with a Master of Science in International Strategy and Diplomacy.

Career

  • Before his political career, George worked as an assistant director at the Office of the Head of Civil Service from 2010 to 2014 and as a communications specialist at the office of the President from 2014 to 2016.
  • In 2015, George contested for the Ningo-Prampram Constituency seat in the National Democratic Congress primary elections, defeating the incumbent E. T. Mensah, who had held the position since 1996, with 4,910 votes representing 53.4% of total votes while Mensah polled 2,831 representing 38.5%.
  • In the 2020 parliamentary elections, George was re-elected as the member of parliament for Ningo-Prampram Constituency, winning with 23,860 votes representing 63% of the total votes cast.
  • George is currently a member of both the Public Accounts Committee and the Communications Committee.
  • George is known for his anti-LGBTI views and has described homosexuality as a “perversion”. In 2021, he proposed a law criminalizing homosexuality and many forms of LGBTI support and activism, even medical support.
